Figure 5.4 The left defensive link observes that the left defensive middle has chased hard to cover the space on their left-hand side and their momentum will take them further to the left. The defensive link moves infield as the defensive middle makes the touch and the defensive middle retreats to the link position. In effect the two players have swapped positions to deny the attacking team space.
